Press ReleaseAboveNet Introduces eXpressWaveTM, Its Upgraded Ultra Long Haul Network NEW YORK, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AboveNet Communications Inc., a leading provider of fiber connectivity solutions announced that it has completed the upgrade of eXpressWave, its nationwide, ultra long haul network. This network spans the US, connecting AboveNet customers to 14 major metro markets. The upgraded network, based on Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, was built purposely to minimize regeneration sites and active components, limiting network points of failure while offering the improved latency performance customers have come to expect. Of particular value to customers concerned about true fiber diversity is that the metro “tails” coming off the network backbone are not shared, which provides the critical diverse path some enterprises require. In addition, eXpressWave provides increased bandwidth capability, optimized for the next-generation 10Gigabit wave needs of today, with the capability to scale flexibly to meet changing needs, and to support 40Gbps and 100Gbps speeds in the very near future. “Now that the upgrade of our nationwide, eXpressWave ultra long haul network is complete our customers are benefiting from the enhanced scalability it provides their applications. eXpressWave enables us to offer the same high-bandwidth services between our 14 markets as those we are so well known for providing within the metro arena,” said Rajiv Datta, SVP & CTO at AboveNet. “The eXpressWave ultra long haul network has been specifically designed to provide direct, express connectivity in and between the top US marketplaces.” Bill LaPerch, AboveNet CEO says that, “As with eXpressWave, AboveNet continues to invest in next generation technologies to further our ability to best serve our customers’ need for low-latency, high-bandwidth fiber optical solutions. With our eXpressWave service enhanced by our upgraded network’s capability, we are able to solve more of our customer’s WAN connectivity challenges.” About AboveNet, Inc.
